Registering a User Name
| • Register Overview • Registering |
When you have set up your YaBB forum or are visiting a YaBB forum you will want to register your user name. This allows you to keep the same identity while posting on the forums. You can also keep track of your post count, fill out a profile, and receive instant messages.
RegisteringWhen calling up YaBB in a browser you will see a menu across the top which should have images for "Home", "Help", "Search", "Login", and "Register". Click the link/image that says register. You will be taken to a screen where you can select a user name. Depending on what administrator of that particular YaBB has chosen, you can either fill out your password and information or if they have email registration turned on you will be prompted for your desired user name and a valid email address.
If your desired user name is available you will either be able to login or you will receive an email with a temporary password - again this depends on what type of registration the administrator has set the forum to.
The Verification Code is used to stop automated hacking systems from systematically registering bulk 'dummy' users that are used to send SPAM to the forum members.
If you are unable to see the Verification Code then your web browser is probably blocking the script that is creating it. This is most common with default installations of Microsoft Internet Explorer 7.0. There are several ways of resolving the issue:
- Use a different web browser such as Firefox
- Add http://forum.sccbc.net to your Trusted Sites in Internet Explorer
- Uninstall Internet Explorer 7 and revert back to Internet Explorer 6.0
For option # 2, open Internet Explorer and select the Tools menu
and select Internet Options. Select the Security tab.
Select Trusted Sites and then select the Sites button.
Enter http://forum.sccbc.net in the Add
this web site to the zone filed, and uncheck the box marked
Require server verification. Select OK twice.
Restart Internet Explorer and it should work OK for you.
More information on the exact security settings that are affecting
the Verification Code script will be posted here when they become
available.
You can then proceed to login!
